A Caribbean Mulled Wine Recipe

Tis the season to get litty!

Although I’m yet to visit a Christmas market or Winter Wonderland this season, I am surprisingly feeling very festive. What better way to celebrate the season than to make the perfect winter beverage… Mulled Wine with SPICED RUM!

Just FYI, this recipe was made with pure vibes and guidance from the ancestors so the measurements are merely an estimate and you should do what feels good for you!

Ingredients:

1 bottle of red wine (I used Hardy’s Merlot)

1-2 cups Spiced Rum (I used Captain Morgan’s)

2 tablespoons vanilla essence

1 tablespoon star anise essence (or dried anise if preferred)

A handful of cloves

3-5 sticks of cinnamon

Grated nutmeg and ginger

1 whole orange, sliced

Optional:

Lime zest

Brown sugar or agave syrup

Instructions:

Pour the whole bottle of red wine and 1 cup of spiced rum into a large pot over low-medium heat. Do not let it boil as the heat will reduce the alcohol.

Next add your vanilla and anise essence, tasting as you go. Give it a stir.

Now for your spices, add in the cinnamon sticks, cloves, nutmeg, ginger and orange slices then leave it to simmer for 10 minutes. Stir occasionally.

You’re pretty much done at this point but you can go the extra mile if needs be. This recipe is STRONG so you may want to add some sugar to sweeten or grate some lime zest for a more rounded flavour.

Serve hot with an orange wheel and stick of cinnamon to garnish.

Enjoy! x
