Hobbies For Your Heaux Era
Me at Nana’s JiggleFiit Class!
“When was the last time you had a hobby that you didn’t monetise?”
…was a question I recently asked myself as I’m 100% guilty of turning everything I do into content for Instagram. As I’m growing older and becoming more public, I’m now at a stage where I want to be more intentional about setting boundaries with my personal life and professional life. In comes Padel…
I started playing Padel last autumn with my friend Salem after going through a break-up and he thought I could do with a distraction (apparently lots of sexy men play Padel but I’m yet to meet one).
My bestie Salem on the court!
The point of this post isn’t about how great Padel is, it’s about the importance of having extra curricular activities in your adult life whether you’re single or in a relationship. As a woman (from past experiences) it’s very easy for your world to start to revolve around your love life that all the things you loved to do whilst single, suddenly get thrown out the window.
If you’re in an interesting place in your dating life, I’d highly recommend picking up a new hobby or something you used to love in childhood. I’ve noticed how much more fulfilled I feel in myself (single or in relationships) when I have things going on that bring me joy. I also love it when my friends and partners have hobbies outside of the things we do together.
THINGS TO PICK UP IN YOUR SINGLE ERA:
1. Start a solo hobby. This can be something super niche like painting or learning an instrument or for your physical wellbeing like Pilates. What would your inner child like? Go crazy! This is simply for your enjoyment!
2. Start a hobby with friends. This could be something social like Padel that requires 4 people or a dance class. I recently went to Jiggle Fiit, a judgement free twerk class curated by Nana Crawford and I had a TIME! It was so empowering being in a room full of open minded women who just wanted to jiggle, sweat and have a good time. Watch my recap on IG.
3. Expand your mind. Being well read is always a positive so I’d definitely encourage you to pick up a book or study something new if you can. I’m currently learning French simply because I think it’s hot to be multilingual and I may want to relocate to the French Riviera one day. Call me shallow, idc.
